Jazz Appreciation Group

Status:Temporarily inactive
When: Monthly on Thursday afternoons 2:00 pm-4:00 pm
2nd Thursday of Month
Venue: The West Dean Centre

Ragtime, Blues and Gospel, through to New Orleans, Stride Piano, Chicago and Boogie Woogie. Swing and Big Band, Bebop, Cool, West Coast, Skiffle, Mainstream, The Revival Movement, Latin, The Trad Boom, Vocal, Fusion, Crossover, Modern Latin and Contemporary.

We listen to all styles of Jazz, following its progression and many of the characters and musicians who experimented and extemporised. Always pushing the music forward, looking for that something extra that would lift their solos or compositions above those of their peers.

We talk about what we hear and discuss our likes and dislikes. Some music will be easy on the ear or happy on the feet. Other music will be fascinating or beautiful and some downright challenging. Different people respond in different ways, all making for stimulating and enjoyable sessions and appreciating the rich diversity of the genre.

About your group hosts -
